Labor Day in New England

Wow, can’t believe Labor Day is over . . . summer is over.  Ugh, such a bummer.  😦  And its cold and rainy today – nothing like shocking you right into fall.

Weekend was nice.  Saturday morning Ellen, Kerry and I went to 8am yoga at Beavertail.  It was the last one of the summer being held there.  After yoga Ellen and I went for a long walk on the beach with the dogs, then got dressed and ready to go into Boston for the Red Sox game.  They won – only game this weekend – and looked great.

Sunday morning Mike, Morgan, Matt and I played 9 at the Jamestown Golf Course.  We have a tournament there next weekend so we had to practice (get all of our bad shots out of us).  I think we’re  going to kick some major butt next weekend – can’t wait!

Sunday afternoon was the annual Barron Labor Day Party.  I made fruit skewers with marshmallow and cream cheese dip.  They were gone in a matter of seconds – so fast that Mike and I didn’t even get one.

We were there ALL day and I was the designated driver so after dropping everyone on the island off at their homes and finally settled into bed at 1:30am (which is like 5am in Jamestown).  Didn’t stop us from getting up early Monday morning, having breakfast and catching the ferry over to Newport for some shopping and sightseeing.

After walking around for a while we came back to the house and cooked up a nice late b-day lunch for Mike’s Uncle Mark that was visiting from St. Louis.  Appetizers were guacamole and homemade crab cakes and stuffies. Dinner was tuna steaks, salmon and zucchini on the grill, corn and potatoes with fresh rosemary. Dessert was homemade chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches.  Got home at 9pm (ZERO traffic), unpacked and bed.

It was also Harper’s first b-day party on Saturday.  It was a success.  Shannon wrote the following yesterday (and sent the picture, below), “Harper put the candle out with her fingers, cried when everyone sang happy birthday to her, but discovered the joy of chocolate.”

Sebastian sent this yesterday – its her in the sweater Mom-Mom made her. 🙂
