You’re Never Going to Guess Who I Ran Into Last Night

My plan of going to yoga last night didn’t work out as expected.  Instead I got held up at the office with a client (well, actually three clients that all wanted something at the same time – story of my life) and got a last-minute text that changed everything . . .

First, I met Katya (who was supposed to go to yoga with me but also got held up at the office), for a drink at Soho House.  Soho House is a club in NYC (they actually have a few of locations around the World) that Katya and Unity belong to. It’s a hotel with a great lounge/bar area and a rooftop pool.  In order to get in there you have to be with a member – so it was my first time and it definitely didn’t disappoint.  This is what the lounge area looks like.

Actually, it looks better than this.  They just had it redone but the updated picture isn’t on the website, but you get the idea.  This is the rooftop pool.

Too bad the membership wait list is 3,000 people long.  😦

ANYWAY – I met up with Katya to catch up with her and hear all about her engagement and trip to Turkey.  This was taken moments before the proposal (clifftop boutique hotel in Turkey – awesomeness).  Below it is another picture from the hotel pool (also awesomeness).

ANYWAY!  Back to the text that started it all!  It was from Jess Helfer (well, Atlers) saying that she was in town for the night attending a private opening party for an exhibit that Dan helped with . . . she invited me to stop by . . .  so Katya and I went! I’m super shiny in this picture – its been raining and humid for DAYS. I also wore my wellies to this AND the Soho House – embarrassing but there was no way around it.

Here is a little write up of the exhibit:

During New York’s Fashion’s Night Out, Ippolita will exhibit six new works of glass, steel and video in an installation at the Highline Stages. The “Reliquary” sculpture and video series is a dramatic exhibit of sculptures that viewer in a dialog about various elements of the human experience, including Love, War, Strength and Fragility, Curiosity, Empathy, Religion and Desire. Ranging in size from 3 feet to 12 feet tall.

Dan, of course, created all of the glass for the pieces.  My pictures really don’t do it justice, but here goes.

This first one was definitely the most striking.  It’s a spine with all of the rib bones on the floor.  It was STUNNING. You can see the video in the spine itself.

This is a . . . well . . . a mans crotch area.  The glass part is exactly what you think it is.

The last big piece was a chest with a glass heart.

So, you know, a normal Wed in NYC.

BTW – I don’t snowboard.  Learned my lesson with that one.
