Warm weather . . . friendly people who are constantly outside doing some sort of activity . . . enjoying every single moment of sunshine the day has to offer . . . yummy food . . . beautiful beaches . . . my best friend . . . Encinitas is all that and more and I could not have had a better time this past weekend. I miss Kim (and wearing flip-flops) dearly . . . but the good news is that it looks like I’ll be going back to LA for work in April, which means I have another weekend in paradise to look forward to. 🙂
First off, Kim and Matt’s AAAAdorable new house. It’s in a little gated community not far from the beach (and the highway, which is important for Kim’s commute to work). Their good friends live DIRECTLY across the street (and they happen to be expecting too which is great).
LOVE the color of their front door.
They have two adorable kitties . . . Loki
This is the main street of Encinitas . . .
Birds of Paradise grows like weeds here. So awesome.
The town beach.
Look at this cactus garden! It took over this person’s entire front yard (which happened to be RIGHT at the entrance to the town beach (above)). Amazing. Can you grow those fun goose neck plants in your cactus garden?
Here are more pictures from our long walk on the beach.
Only in California . . .
I’m so very lucky to have the opportunity to see Kim and Matt (and soon, their little one) on a pretty regular basis . . . I will never take a second with them (or the sunshine) for granted.
For two girls growing up amongst cow farms in Barto, PA, we’ve done pretty good for ourselves. 🙂
I haven’t updated you on Jane in quite some time. Kathy(my Jane partner) and I took about a month vacation from Jane, but we are back at it. Some of my recently completed blocks.
Auditioning green background (for the sashing strips) I WILL be trying another fabric, I don’t like this. (Sorry about the fuzziness.)
And, the second Jane I’ve quilted this month-Claudia’s beautiful “Uncle Jane.” Given that name because she had to say UNCLE!!!!
Hope you are having fun with Kim!
Wow, can’t believe its Monday already. Ugh, what a bummer. The only thing getting me through today is knowing that I’ll be in sunny San Diego with my bestie this weekend!
So yes, very surprising weekend . . . one of the best surprises of the weekend was Vicki’s b-day party. 60 black balloons + 20 of her best friends + bday cake from Buttercup + tons of yummy food and drinks prepared by her friends + one VERY surprised Vic = success. We had the photobooth set up . . . hopefully when Vic catches her breath at work (super busy week for them) she’ll post the pics. I bet they’re pretty hilarious. This is a pic of her walking into the surprise, though. Love it.
Then we had Conn’s surprise at Foxwoods on Saturday. So great to see them.
That’s when the good surprises ended . . . we got one very bad surprise on Saturday. That the stupid owners of La Jardin decided to turn our beautiful condo building into a rental. We’ve been waiting and planning for this apartment for 3+ months and to have it taken away in one instant is heartbreaking. BUT everything happens for a reason. Maybe the reason is that Mike will get an incredible job offer outside of the NYC area . . . maybe we’ll win the Powerball jackpot and can afford to get a whole townhouse in Brooklyn instead of a two bedroom . . . or maybe we’ll find a condo that is even better . . . like this one (which happens to be in our price range and is available now). Looks like a pretty nice place to drink your morning coffee while reading the newspaper, right?
It’s a two bedroom but only has one bathroom . . . BUT it has 800 square feet of outdoor space and a sunroom. 1,869 total square feet . . . that’s kind of unheard of in the city . . . unless you’re a millionaire. We’ll see!
One thing that wasn’t surprising is that THE PATS ARE GOING TO THE SUPERBOWL!!!!!!
Yep, I suggest that become Mom mom’s new name. Yesterday she discovered that she could see our old house in Drexel Hill, where I live now, and Uncle Bobby’s house using the map program. She is hooked on Angry Birds, and loves her other games. She has read 2 books (we are having difficulty downloading a new one.) You know that she can take pictures and send them, I think she sent one to you. She knows how to use both the front and back camera for skype. Pretty good for 4 years from 90!
I have two injured dogs…a very dramatic Boston Terrier and a trying to ignore his limp shepherd. Both have hurt paws from chasing our next door dogs up and down the fence for about an hour.
I haven’t been able to watch Project Runway from last week…I thought I could watch it on “on demand” after the episode airs. Its going to take awhile to get used to my new TV service. (I guess I’m not as quick a study as my 86 year old mother!)
MY GRAND-DOG IS SO CUTE!!!!!!!!!!
