An Open Letter to Moms . . .

This. Is. Adorable.

It’s a weird Mother’s Day for me.  Not only am I celebrating my amazing Mom . . . and mother-in-law . . . and mom-mom . . . I’m sort of a Mom myself.  I’m still learning (I’m sure the learning never ends) how to be a Mom but I’ve had some great women in my life that have shown me the way . . . hopefully I can follow in their footsteps.

Now, let’s breakdown the 10 things from this adorable video.

1.) Put down your phone.

Mom, to be honest, you don’t really know how to use your phone so this was never an issue.  You just learned how to really respond to a text message a few months ago.  Previously you set up three (THREE!) email addresses that you think are for texting so you only use them on your phone (writing this has confused me even more).  Whenever I want to text you I email all three (plus send a text) to make sure you get the message somehow (most of the time you still don’t get it).  Try to work on that, will you? 🙂

Me, on the other hand, may have issues with this one . . . especially since the word “Blackberry” was in Mike’s vows to me at our wedding (when he was talking about things he has to accept about me . . . oops).  I’ll try . . . really hard . . . but can make no promises.

2.) Don’t name your kid phone.

Thank GOODNESS you did not name me phone . . . or Marsha (like you were going to).  Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!

We have not decided on names yet . . . but I know for sure phone will not make it on the short list.

3.) We love you, just sometimes we don’t know how to say it.

Not sure what else to say other than its true.  Moms know us best and so we can be our complete selves with them . . . which is sometimes good but sometimes bad.  Hopefully you know I love you with all my heart, Mom . . . always will.

4.) Stop cleaning

For as long as I can remember I did the cleaning because it makes you cranky and it makes me happy so again, no issue here with you Mom.

Me, on the other hand, I’m a little OCD.  Having a cleaning lady helps but I clean the table after I’m finished eating at a restaurant . . . have a heart attack if Mike leaves any utensil in the sink for longer than 30 seconds . . . and can’t sleep at night if the pillows on the couch in our living room are not in their perfect spots before I head to bed. There might be a tie between this and the Blackberry issue described earlier.  Need to work on it. Maybe I’ll start by not caring about the pillows tonight . . . nah.

5.) Mom upside down is Wow.

Wow is right!  Between the morning sickness, hating your favorite foods (three months of not eating kale and guacamole . . .  two of my favorite foods . . . how the heck does that happen?), going to the doctor every freaking second, not enjoying a nice glass of wine and amazing imported cheese after a long work week . . . being a Mom is already hard and I’ve only really been at it for 5 months!

6.) Meatloaf

Well, we don’t eat red meat . . . so this has never been and won’t be an issue.  My kid, on the other hand, might have to sit me down one day and have a similar conversation about kale.

7.) Thank you for cleaning up all the poop

Thanks Mom.

Ugh, what have I gotten myself into?

8.) Have fun for once.

If you know my Mom her middle name is fun.  She has fun whether she’s in the middle of a cow pasture, knee-deep in manure, helping an 80-year-old farmer birth a calf (true story . . . there is actually a cow in PA named Beverly) . . . or spending an entire weekend locked in a room with fabric, thread, sewing machines and ladies (I would go batty . . . my heart is actually beating faster just thinking about it).

I have Mike . . . and as long as I have him we will have fun.  Not worried about this one.

9.) Hug more, shout less.

Again, if you know my Mom she lives for a good hug and I’ve only ever seen her shout at a car salesman when she wants a good deal (it ALWAYS works by the way . . . so bring her with you the next time you are going to buy a new car). Oh, and when the dogs escape the yard.

I think I’m the same in that respect . . . hopefully. 🙂

10.) The secret to changing the world . . . Moms

Well, my world would certainly not be as wonderful as it is without you, Mom.  Love you.  Happy (early) mother’s day!
