Kathy C ‘s Dear Jane
Each top I quilt is special. This one started my journey with Jane, so it is especially special to me!
“Dear Jane” Kathy made the quilt. (She is called that so Neil can keep all the Cathy/Kathys in my life straight.) Kathy’s favorite block is the red Frank Lloyd Wright block.
When Kathy found out that we lived about two miles apart she invited me to her house to work on our Jane quilts. She had been sewing the blocks for several years and wanted to finish the quilt before the ten year anniversary of having started the many blocks . Almost every Monday for two years we became friends while she created her masterpiece and I started mine.
We sewed, and complimented, and cursed and laughed. I am so happy that Kathy finished her quilt, and it was an honor to quilt this beauty for her.
But, I’m also sad, Kathy moved to a beautiful new property last week. Although I’m sure we will still sew together, I don’t think it will be every week since she will be busy building a new home.
Kathy used the traditional reproduction fabrics in the 169 blocks and 52 border triangles. Kathy used a black/brown print in the 1/2″ sashing which is different than the muslin that Jane used in the original quilt.
Wonderful, spectacular accomplishment. Congratulations on your Quilting PhD Kathy!
Amazing quilt …….just love all those little blocks.
