Happy Anniversary Jack and Mary

leave a comment »

Two years ago Mary joined our family when she married Neil’s best friend Jack.jack and maeryFollowing a beautiful wedding, their honeymoon was a bicycle tour of Italy.  I found bicycle fabric and made this quilt to celebrate their marriage. DSCN3685Mary assigned tables at the reception using bicycle names. I had no idea there were so many companies making bikes!
DSCN3689Of course a wedding quilt made by me HAD to include a heart or two.
DSCN3690 The design for this quilt had a lot of blank space that allowed me to personalize the quilt by writing Mary and Jack’s names, wedding date, church and reception venue in the stitching.DSCN3695Much love was stitched into this quilt for our dear, dear friends.

The Wonderful Oz

Katya and Unity had their little baby boy last Friday and I could not be more in love with him or more happy for them.  He was ready to roll and ended up showing his sweet little face three weeks early!  So excited to watch him grow up and watch Julian and Oz be homies.

I’m Finally Reading Again!

leave a comment »

I have finally gotten back into reading . . . thank goodness!  I didn’t realize how much I missed it until I started back in again.

I have been reading Simplicity Parenting.  I read about it somewhere and thought it was the perfect time in my life to pick it up.  It’s all about how society these days is faster and busier than ever and there is too much stuff, too many choices, and too little time . . . and how those pressures really define children’s paths in life. The blue print for change includes:

  • Streamline your home environment. Reduce the amount of toys, books, and clutter—as well as the lights, sounds, and general sensory overload.
  • Establish rhythms and rituals. Discover ways to ease daily tensions, create battle-free mealtimes and bedtimes, and tell if your child is overwhelmed.
  • Schedule a break in the schedule. Establish intervals of calm and connection in your child’s daily torrent of constant doing.
  • Scale back on media and parental involvement. Manage your children’s “screen time” to limit the endless deluge of information and stimulation.

Most of these are already done in our house . . . but some aren’t . . . and I can see how those items could have a profound effect on little Julian some day.

BUT

I just saw that The Fault in Our Stars movie is coming out in June so I need to take a brief break from Simplicity in order to read the book before the movie comes out.

Congratulations Cathy, MA

I am so proud of my sister Cathy!  She persevered through two years of studying for her master’s degree.  She completed this while working full-time.  Great accomplishment Kitty! Mom and Dad had a surprise graduation party for her, complete with balloons…DSCN3264 Bright, cheerful, colorful flowers….DSCN3263A cake (with red flowers and letters)…
DSCN3262 And friends…(Mom, Ruth, Bernice, Cathy, Barb, Bev and Patti Gibson.)DSCN3273Ruth and Bernice have been friends with Cathy for as long as I can remember!DSCN3269 Patti, (always referred to as Patti Gibson) has Cathy’s buddy since Junior High.   Josh and Joel were really happy for their Mom’s accomplishment.  Andrew was also happy, but he was too busy eating shrimp for me to catch him in a picture. Christine and Bill snuck out before I took their picture.  You were a sweetheart to call to congratulate Kitty.DSCN3268 Ron (Bernice’s husband), Dad, and Mike (Ruth’s husband) celebrated and solved all the world’s problems.

Guess Who is 3 Months Old Today?

Little Julian Michael.

This month has been really fun.  He’s really into giggling . . . and smiling . . . and holding onto my finger for dear life.  He has incredible tracking with his eyes and still loves the little lambs that are hanging over his vibrating chair.  He talks A LOT.  It KILLS me how cute that is.  He has graduated from the bassinet stroller attachment to the car seat stroller attachment . . . from stage 1 diapers to stage 2 . . . from sleeping in his Rock n Play to his big boy crib . . . from newborn clothes to 6 month (pretty much just skipped over 3 month clothes, sadly).  He got his first cold (which broke my heart!), he started sleeping through the night (thank you sleep training!!!), he loves tummy time and we started him on a little bit of formula (which also breaks my heart but is necessary for many reasons . . . one of which is that he’s an eating machine and I cannot keep up).  He had his first Christmas, first night without either of his parents and first bloody finger (courtesy of yours truly who thought that she could cut his nails).  He continues to change right before our eyes . . . every single day.  He’s such an amazing little dude and I’m so proud that he’s mine.

Here are a few other milestones that we’ve passed so you can see how much he’s changed!
